The Costa Blanca and its beautiful beaches are world famous as a tourist attraction, a cultural hotspot and the place with the best climate for health and wellbeing in the world. The Costa Blanca ("White Coast") stretches 200 kilometres over the Province of Alicante on the south-east coast of Spain, from Denia in the north to Torrevieja in the south.

The Costa Blanca has something for everyone. Its main population centres are Alicante and Benidorm, where vast blocks of high-rise apartment buildings can be seen stretching before the white sands. These are the main tourist centres on the Costa Blanca, particularly popular among British and German visitors. The population centres have a vast number of restaurants, bars and clubs with vibrant nightlife, perfectly suited to the holidaymaker.

Costa Blanca Scenery and Culture

Outwith the larger cities and towns, the Costa Blanca has some of the most picturesque scenery in Europe. North of Benidorm are wonderful jagged mountain ranges. The lower slopes of these have been beautifully terraced – evidence of landscaping done in Moorish times. The panoramic views from the mountains of the Mediterranean sea and even as far as the Balearic Islands are breathtaking.

Further inland, beautiful villages and hamlets with traditional fincas (small ranches, or farms) can be seen dotted around the sun-drenched landscape. Exotic Mediterranean crops can be seen growing on hillsides, including olives, lemons and oranges, and tiny hilltop churches and tight bunches of whitewashed homes capture the imagination, giving a sense of the centuries-old traditions of spanish life.

Costa Blanca Climate

With over 300 days of sunshine annually, the Costa Blanca has the perfect climate all year round. Sunshine is almost constant from April to October, and even in winter temperatures remain very mild at around 16 degrees celcius. The air is mild and dry and its healing properties are recommended by physicians for people suffering from rheumatism, arthritis, and heart and circulation problems.

Costa Blanca Infrastructure

Property prices are still affordable despite increases elsewhere in Spain. High rise buildings and tower blocks are confined to the tourism centre, Benidorm, and the capital of the area, Alicante, and outwith the main population centres hidden gems can be found, from villas in small sun drenched hamlets to fincas tucked away in stunning rustic valleys. The Mediterranean Sea is crystal clear all year round due to quality sewerage systems and a lack of chemical industry along the coastline.

Access to the Costa Blanca is easy, through the international airports at Alicante and Valencia as well as the motorway system. The local roads are well maintained and a pleasure to drive on, particularly along the beautiful hillsides and rock formations stretching up and down the coast. Amenities and utilities are superb, and foreign residents will not miss out on the things they were accustomed to at home. The Costa Blanca combines the traditional beauty of centuries-old Spanish living with the modern facilities and standards of living you are accustomed to.
